Here are some pics of our Gauge 1 layout, which is currently under development. You'll notice in the second picture a custom connection between the Gauge 1 and 15mm layouts; one of the many benefits of having so much space to work with!

The Gauge One line comprises a double track circuit of 100ft (30mts). The track is gauge widened to 45.5mm, giving free running on the minimum 10ft (3000mm) radius curves employed. The rail will be stainless steel (code 180), treated to give it the authentic rust colour, sleepers are to fine scale standard, all being supplied by Cliff Barker. The line is designed for steam and battery operated electric with no facility for 2 rail electrical pick up, the reason being that the latter does not mix well with steam hauled trains, that often leave an oily deposit on the rail.

The main line is super elevated which also gives the correct raised ballast appearance in our attempt to achieve prototype practice and realism.
The station has a passing loop on each line, allowing stopping trains to be passed by fast. This also provides a useful refuge for steam locomotives being refuelled. On the opposite side to of the layout to the station there will be a goods siding, this will be on the inner side of the line to allow operators to reach the rolling stock when necessary.
Steaming bays for locomotive preparation will be provided on the outside of both circuits, the outer circuit will have the use of a scale 60ft turntable.
On leaving the station the line enters a cutting, and then a tunnel, two carriage siding also enter the hill but in a separate tunnel mouth. The tunnel is to be provided with a ventilation shaft. Upon leaving the tunnel the line will pass under a skew bridge, this carries the road (farm track) to the farm on the hillside. The line then crosses a viaduct having five arches at a scale height of 90ft.

As construction of the line progresses, platforms will be erected with buildings, signalling and signal boxes and other lineside features.
