Here are the latest pics of the South Coast RaILS O Gauge layout, which will be changing dramatically in the coming months with the addition of scenics.

Our finescale O Gauge layout is 70 feet long and 16 feet wide. It is a permanent layout available for members to work on and run their stock on 7 days a week.

There is a double track main line circuit with a ten track fiddle yard at the rear, as seen in the first picture above. At the front of the layout there is a large through station with two through lines, three through platform lines and a bay platform at each end. There will be a Mail/Parcels platform and a goods yard with five sidings, and a small loco depot with three tracks is also planned.

The second picture above shows the location of the loco depot and the tracks through the station area. In the foreground is the base for the turntable. The third pic shows the station throat at the other end and the down platform under construction. The line dropping down hill on the left is the branch line to a terminus which is at the end of the layout on a lower level.

In these two pictures you can see the branch pass under the main line. The first picture below shows the terminus; from the left can be seen three goods sidings, run round loop, the main platform line, the bay platform line and loco depot to the right. Most of the point motors have been fitted to this area and within a few weeks the branch will be fully operational and we will be able to start ballasting and scenics.

You can also see that scenics have recently been started on the high level section of the main line where it crosses the branch line. Across the centre of the layout is a reversing loop so we can turn trains around. There will also be a small through station on this line and three junctions along it; two of them will be used to join onto members layouts (one a WR terminus, and the other a diesel depot), and the third line is to an Oil terminal which can be seen in the foreground of the second picture above.

We are happy to run any type of trains from any period on the layout and with 7 day access there are plenty of running opportunities for everyone. At present we have 11 O Gauge members and our stock varies from GWR, SR, BR(SR), 1960’s green Diesel and 1980’s Diesels.

We have a regular meet on Wednesdays, although we all come and go at different times usually between midday and 10pm.
